Congratulations to Martin G.T. Magnet Middle School's Drama Production, Honors Orchestra, and Technical Theatre II students!
The students traveled to the N.C. Theatre Conference Eastern Regional Middle School Play Festival on Saturday, March 24th. The conference was held at East Chapel Hill High school. The students performed their collaborative student-written play, "Caught in the Middle", which is based on children and their lives during the Civil War. The students came back with the following awards:

Prior to this event, an excerpt froo this play was accepted into the 2007 Wake County Pieces of Gold production and performed as a collaborative work by the Drama Production and Honors Orchestra students. Teachers leading this group are Judy Dove-Theatre Arts Director, Anita Hynus-Orchestra Director, and Kirt Landry-Technical Director. Way to go, Dramatic Mustangs!
Mrs. Dove also holds the 2005 NCTC K-12 Theatre Educators award.
2006-2007 North Carolina Middle School Dance Educator of the Year
The North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance has awarded Mrs. Joanna Caves, Dance Specialist at Martin GT Middle School in Raleigh, the award for North Carolina Middle School Dance Educator of the year, 2006-2007. Mrs. Caves will be receiving her award at the N.C.A.H.P.E.R.D. conference, which will take place in Greensboro, NC November 15-18, 2006. This prestigious award also places her in the running for teacher of the year in the K-12 category for all of North Carolina schools.
We are proud of Mrs. Caves’ achievements, and feel extremely fortunate to have an educator of this caliber at Martin Middle School.

Martin competes in Wake County Battle of The Books
Congratulations to Martin’s Battle of the Books team for their fierce competition in the county tournament. On March 10th, 2007, Martin defeated Fuquay in two overtimes, allowing them to advance to the final four round. Facing a strong Daniel's team, and tying in two perfect matches, Martin lost a close match in the second overtime, and captured third place in a field of eighteen schools! Thanks to the following students for their teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the tournament: Megan B., Ben C., Fiona D., Akshay G., Andrew H., Hannah H., Kevin L., Elizabeth P., Rachael R., Sarah R., Taylor S., and Abigail S. We are proud of all of you!

Martin Wins 2006 Wake County Battle of The Books
Congratulations to Martin’s Battle of the Books team for winning the 2006 Wake County Battle of the Books tournament at Southeast Raleigh High School on March 4, 2006. Martin’s team came in first out of a field of twenty Wake County middle schools.

Frau Garrison is proud to announce that Martin won First Place School Overall in the German Day Competition. The competition took place in Winston-Salem, at Salem College. The students took home more trophies than any other middle or high school in North Carolina! The students received the following awards:

Martin Solar Car Speed Competition
The Solar Race Cars students participated in the EV Challenge over the weekend of March 24th, 2007. The EV challenge is a competition for middle and high school students. The middle school students participate in a program called the Junior Solar Sprint (We call the class Solar Race Cars here at Martin). There were seven schools attending from across the state, and over thirty cars entered into the competition! The"Blue Man" team, consisting of J. Sprissler, S. Rhodes, and C. Harmon made it into the semi-finals. The "Wolfpack" team of C. Scheviak and N. Wicker made it to the semi-finals as well. The "Wolfpack" also finished in third place for Technical Innovation. The "Spunky Spiders" of J.O'Neil, O. Murphy, and M. Oliver made it into the semi-finals, and also finished in fifth place for speed. Congratulations, Speedy, Environmentally Friendly Mustangs!
Wake County PTA Reflections winners are honored
An awards ceremony for the Wake County PTA Reflections winners was held at Ligon GT Magnet Middle School on Thursday, March 22nd. This year's theme was, "My Favorite Place". There were over two hundred students from Wake County recognized for their winning entries, all of whom had previously won awards at their local school level in order to move on to the county level. Martin GT Magnet Middle School had four students advance and win awards that evening. The students and categories were:

Martin Mathcounts Team Takes 1st Place
in North Carolina
The Mathcounts Team representing Martin placed 5 th in the Chapter Competition in February at Southeast Raleigh High School . The team consisted of M. Lochbaum, Y. Agrawal, K. Roze and J. Ma. Being one of the top 5 teams, the Martin Mathcounts team competed in the State Mathcounts competition Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the School of Math and Science in Durham and came in first place in the state of North Carolina . The team is coached by L. Kay, with assistant coaches Jennifer T. and Travis B.

Martin Student Invited to Geographic Bee N.C. Semifinals
Martin Middle School student D. Hasenauer is moving on on the Geography Bee competition for 2007! This year's Geography Bee will be held on March 30th, at Exploris Museum in Raleigh. Bees were held in schools with fourth through eight grade students throughout the state to determine each school's Geographic Bee winner. School-level winners then took a qualifying test, which they submitted to the National Geographic Society. In each of the 50 states and in the territories, the National Geographic Society invited the students with the top 100 scores to compete at the state level. Wish our contestant luck as he represents Martin at the Geography Bee for 2007!
Congratulations to the Lady Mustangs! 2006 Central Conference Co-Champions in Girls Soccer
The Lady Mustang Soccer team had a very successful season. They rebounded from an early season loss to win 5 consecutive games. The final game was an exciting battle with previously undefeated Daniels. Martin won the the game 3-2 and shared the conference Championship.
