Congratulations goes out to 11 Chorus students from Martin who have been selected to be in this years North Carolina Middle School Honors Chorus. These students will participate in a clinic at the NC Music Educator's Conference Nov. 7-8 in Winston Salem. Congratulations on an outstanding job to Leah Faircloth, Henry Dean, Melanie Piercy, Matthew Cesari, Michael Frink, Jacob Melvin, Maggie Mehltretter, McKenzie Morrison, Celia Zhou, Evan Diener, and Ben Hartman. Martin had more students selected to be in this choir than any other school from across the state. Great job students!
The Martin Middle School Honors Chorus, an auditioned group of 7th and 8th grade students, recently received the Triangle Youth Chorus Trophy Award of Merit. This is the runner-up award to the Triangle Youth Chorus Trophy Award. A surprise presentation was made during the Honors Chorus class on Wednesday, April 22 from the founder of this award, Carol Robbins, and two committee members. The Honors Chorus received a trophy that will be housed at Martin for a year and were presented Triangle Youth Chorus Award T-Shirts for all Honors Chorus students. The choir will also receive the opportunity to do a Master Class with Dr. Al Sturgis from the NC Master Chorale and will have a professional recording session. Congratulations to our Honors Chorus students on their participation in the North Carolina Large Ensemble Choral Festival at Campbell University on Thursday, March 19. Our students earned a superior rating on their stage performance and a perfect score when judged on sightreading. Great job students!
Martin Middle School offers a sequential choral music program with a reputation of musical excellence. Our curriculum, which is based on the National Standards of Music, offers courses to accommodate beginning, intermediate, and advanced level singers. A focus is placed on theory and sight reading as well as performing with proper vocal technique. Students experience performing literature in a variety of musical styles and various languages such as Latin, French, German, Spanish, Hebrew, and Italian. Opportunities are available
for musical growth through ensemble and solo performance. Students who are proficient in piano have an opportunity to serve as student accompanists in our program. Students at Martin have an opportunity to participate in Choral Ensemble, Women's Ensemble, Men's Ensemble, and Honors Chorus.

Martin GT Magnet Middle School is very proud to have a full piano lab available as an elective course for our students. Our lab features quality digital pianos, which offer the very best equipment for our students as they develop skills in piano performance. This course provides a positive environment for students to strengthen their music reading skills and master the basics in piano. Piano Lab is currently offered on a quarterly basis. Piano Lab I is offered 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd, quarter. This course is primarily for students with little or no experience with piano. Piano Lab II/III is available 4 th quarter for students who have passed Piano Lab I or II, or who have experience playing piano through private instruction. Each quarter, students in Piano Lab present a recital.
