The Theatre Department will present "A Thousand Cranes" on November 19 and 20. More information to come.
Martin Theatre Presents - Mark your calendars now for November 19 and 20, when the Martin Theatre Dept. will present the one-act "A Thousand Cranes" as this year's fall play. The play tells the story of Sadako, a middle-school- aged girl in Japan , who suffered from the effects of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima . The play, which features a bigger-than- life crane rod puppet made by Mrs. Bennett's sculpture class, live Japanese music, a thousand paper cranes made by students at Martin Middle School , and many cultural details, was chosen to support the 7th grade Social Studies curriculum on Asian history, so we hope you will come out and share the evening with us. Both shows begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Martin Auditorium. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door the night of the show. While the shows are appropriate for middle school and older, please understand that because of the sadness of the true story it tells, it may not be appropriate for all lower grade children.
The Theatre Department is happy to announce that this year's spring musical will be ------- Willy Wonka ! Based on Roald Dahl's famous story about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it features many of the songs you are familiar with from the movie, including “Pure Imagination” and “The Candyman”. Auditions for the musical will be January 5, 6, and 7, and the show will be February 25 and 26 at 7:00 p.m. All rehearsals and auditions will be held after school. Stay tuned to the MMS News each day -- they'll bring you more information after the fall play is over !
The Theatre Department would appreciate donations of
- large plastic storage bins for storing costumes
- used men's dress shoes for our young men to wear as costumes
- any used tuxedoes -- especially those with tails -- that you might have taking up space in your closets, as well as any bowties, vests, or other tuxedo accessories that might go with it
- old-fashioned-looking tea-cups and saucers that you do not need returned
- AA and 9-volt batteries.
Many thanks to those of you who have been contributing craft supplies -- they will be put to good use!
