MMS & Chip-Everest '08 Bracelet Results..

Martin Middle School participated in a very special fundraiser that concluded last Friday. Students at Martin created red and black bracelets that stated, "MMS & Chip   Everest '08" and sold them for $2.00.  After nealy 3 weeks, all 1,000 bracelets were sold and a profit of nearly $1,550.00 was earned.  This money will be sent to a school in Nepal with the hopes of creating a "sister school".  Our goal at Martin is to be able to communicate with this school in the future via technology.  Thanks to all who participated in this fundraiser, it was greatly appreciated!  And, we can't wait to tell you what our administrators have agreed to do in order to make this sale a competitive win for all! Watch this space for contest results!

Theatre Arts Department Needs...

The Martin Theatre Arts Department needs wire coat hangers (any color but the wire must go completely around, not be replaced with the cardboard roll) for its puppetry class.

Also helpful, if you are cleaning out your craft closet and have any of these, would be donations of yarn or string (any color and texture), acrylic paint, small paintbrushes, foam paintbrushes, small round glue sticks and glue guns, and trim such as sequins and ribbon.  Plastic/Rubbermaid tubs with lids are always welcome.

If you have anything to donate, please bring them to room 3106 on the arts wing after checking in at the office.  Thank you!

You can make a difference..
We need extra help in the ESL classroom during 3rd period (9:20 -10:05). We have several new students who really need help with learning English and our ESL teacher, Brenda Velasquez, already has a large group of learners in her ESL class. A few volunteers would make a huge difference as these students are so eager to learn.
If you are interested, please contact Lyn Finnerty to learn more about this great opportunity to make a difference here at Martin.

Help with 8th grade Martin Masters
In an effort to keep our almost-9th-graders focused through the spring Mr. Soutter is hosting a competition between the three 8th grade teams.  Teams are awarded points for positive behaviors and lose points for negative behaviors.  The winning team will receive a party during the week of May 5.  The party will include music, games, snacks, a pie-in-the-Soutter- face contest, and a raffle. Mr. Soutter is asking Martin families to donate items to help with the reward party.  You can help by sending snacks (chips or cookies), drinks (2 litters), and prizes to raffle off (gift cards to Blockbuster, McDonald's, malls, etc.; athletic equipment, anything else teenagers would like (ask your child for ideas)).  If you choose to donate items they can be dropped off in the front office with a note that says Martin Masters/Mr. Soutter. Thanks in advance for your help!

Parent Observation Week for Martin Dance Students
April 28—May 1

Ever wonder what dance class is like for your student? Ever wonder what goes into class beyond what you see in the concert? National Dance Week is held from April 25– May 4. It is a celebration of dance in all forms nationwide.    In celebration of National Dance Week I am hosting a parent observation week.   You may come and observe your students dance class any time between April 28 and May 1.   I stress that this is an observation, not a performance. You will see a depiction of what class is like for your student each day. You can expect to see the warm up and whatever the class is working on at the time. The times of classes are listed below.   If you would like to observe, just email me at jcaves@wcpss. net to reserve a space, some of my classes are very big, and I want to make sure I can accommodate everyone.

Please reserve your space by April 25, 2008.  email me at: jcaves@wcpss. net
