Congratulations to our Choral Department!

The Martin Middle School Honors Chorus, an auditioned group of 7th and 8th grade students, recently received the Triangle Youth Chorus Trophy Award of Merit.  This is the runner-up award to the Triangle Youth Chorus Trophy Award.  A surprise presentation was made during the Honors Chorus class on Wednesday, April 22 from the founder of this award, Carol Robbins, and two committee members.  The Honors Chorus received a trophy that will be housed at Martin for a year and were presented Triangle Youth Chorus Award T-Shirts for all Honors Chorus students.  The choir will also receive the opportunity to do a Master Class with Dr. Al Sturgis from the NC Master Chorale and will have a professional recording session.  The Martin Middle School Honors Chorus is directed by Mrs. Ramona Jenner. Additional Congratulations-

Congratulations to four Martin Choral students who participated in the All-State chorus clinic in May. Leah Faircloth, Henry Dean, Katie Srivastava, and Jordan Holoman traveled to Greensboro, and participated with some of the finest middle school singers from across the state. The students represented our school in an outstanding way, and as a culminating event, participated in the All-State Chorus Concert at War Memorial Auditorium. Great job, students!

Mathcounts-

Congratulations to Martin's Mathcounts Team!

The Chapter Mathcounts competition was held Saturday February 28th at Athens Drive High School .  Representing Martin were:  William Ge, Matthew Litzsinger, Joshua Horowitz, Anne Feng, Yuhui Yuan, Vivek Hebbar, Roma Agrawal, and Joonha Lee.  The Mathcounts team is coached by Lucy Kay.  The Martin team consisting of William Ge, Matthew Litzsinger, Joshua Horowitz and Anne Feng came in 4th place overall, receiving trophies at the awards ceremonyThese four students will advance to the State Mathcounts competition which be held March 20th at the School of Science and Math in Durham .  Congratulations to these fine math competitors!

Our Third place winner is Sarah Wellish, our Second place winner is Allen Lawrence, and our First place winner is Will Paynter! We are proud of all of you! Will's next step is to move on to the testing portion to see if he will represent Martin at the state level. Good luck, Will!

People to People International-

Congratulations to Emily Muth, in Mrs. Gibson's Eighth Grade science class. Mrs. Gibson submitted Emily's artwork into the People to People International Global Youth Murals project. Emily's work, entitled, Revolution, has been selected as the 2008 Middle School Honorable Mention! After January, it will be displayed on the People to People website. Mrs. Gibson is currently working with her students to connect to other middle school students in Romania!

Wake County PTA received over 1000 entries from schools in Wake County. We were very excited to have the following entires place at the Wake County PTA level:

Dance Choreography: 1st place- Grayson Troxler


We are excited to announce that Grayson Troxler's Choreography entry has just won NC District 3, and has now been forwarded to the next level-the State competition!

NC PTA District 3 includes these 12 counties: Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin, Granville, Halifax, Johnston, Nash, Northampton, Vance, Wake, Warren, and Wilson.

Want your child to practice their computer skills and prepare for the Online Computer Skills Test which is given to 8th graders?

 

easyCAST is an online computer skills assessment tool that is offered through Wake County Public Schools.  If you are interested in your child learning about  the types of questions that are on the Online Computer Skills Test or practicing their computer skills send an email to Lori Marchiando at lmarchiando@wcpss.net and she will give you the web address and a log-in.

Theatre News:

  
Martin Theatre represented on state theatre conference website

Check out the home page of the N orth C arolina T heatre C onference at http://www.nctc.org/ – NCTC has chosen four photos from member organizations for their opening page, and a photo from Martin’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of them!  When you visit the site, you will see four large colored blocks with the letters NCTC in them -- be sure to click on the small NCTC letters in the small white box in the upper left corner to refresh the pictures.  The fourth photo is from our production, and our school name, production, and photographer Robin O’Connor (former Martin mom and volunteer) are identified below the photo.  Our school is featured alongside photos from Elon University , Triad Stage, and Playmakers Rep. 

Drama Production and Technical Theatre III students earned a Superior Rating at the North Carolina Theatre Conference Regional Middle School Play Festivalfor their production of "Serpent of Stone" .They also won Theatre Arts awards for Excellence in Puppetry, Excellence in Choreography, and Excellence in Directing. In addition, Lauren Bullamore's one-act play was recognized for Excellence in Playwriting!
