We are excited to announce that 5 out of our 12 entries submitted to Wake County PTA Council where placed!

Dance - 3rd Place at Wake Council - Madyson B. with 'Beautiful Day'

Wake Council can only send on 24 entries to District- We will know sometime this month who will move on!

Congratulations to the First , Second , and Third place winners in Martin’s Geography Bee.
Our 3 rd place winner is Andrew S.-8th Grade .
Our 2 nd place winner is Tyler B.-6th Grade.
Our 1 st place winner and school champion is Jonathan W. - 7th Grade . Jonathan will take a written geography test and may qualify to represent Martin in the State Geography Bee in April. Congratulations again to these fine students!
Congratulations to Anne F. , grade 8, for scoring 21 out of 25 on the AMC8 competition. Anne is the first place winner for Martin. Second place scorer is John B. , grade 8. Third place finishers: William L. (7), Joonha L. (7), Gabbi M. (8), Amanda R. (7), Brian R. (7). Top scorers at Martin will be invited to participate in the American Mathematics Competition 10 to be held in February.

Congratulations goes out to 11 Chorus students from Martin who have been selected to be in this years North Carolina Middle School Honors Chorus. These students will participate in a clinic at the NC Music Educator's Conference Nov. 7-8 in Winston Salem. Congratulations on an outstanding job to Leah F., Henry D., Melanie P., Matthew C., Michael F., Jacob Me., Maggie M., McKenzie M., Celia Z., Evan D., and Ben H.. Martin had more students selected to be in this choir than any other school from across the state. Great job students!
German teacher, Jo Garrison, German teacher, was named FLANC (Foreign Language Association of North Carolina) Teacher of the Year, 2009-2010. Garrison has been teaching in Wake County for the past 16 years, and is currently teaching at Ligon Middle School and Martin Middle School . She is very involved within the school community as well as at state and county levels. She is a member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, American Association of Teachers of German, Parent Teacher Associations, Sister Cities and FLANC.
Garrison is a very active within the classroom and enjoys helping students make connections between their interests and classroom instruction. She also feels that foreign languages are not electives, but are at the core of student's learning
Congratulations to Kris Thomasson, our Student Council Advisor. Ms. Thomasson has been selected as the NC Middle Level Student Council Adviser of the Year!
Congratulations to Anita Hynus , our National Junior Honor Society Advisor. Mrs. Hynus has been selected as the winner of the Outstanding Recycling Coordinator Award!

The Martin Middle School Honors Chorus, an auditioned group of 7th and 8th grade students, recently received the Triangle Youth Chorus Trophy Award of Merit. This is the runner-up award to the Triangle Youth Chorus Trophy Award. A surprise presentation was made during the Honors Chorus class on Wednesday, April 22 from the founder of this award, Carol Robbins, and two committee members. The Honors Chorus received a trophy that will be housed at Martin for a year and were presented Triangle Youth Chorus Award T-Shirts for all Honors Chorus students. The choir will also receive the opportunity to do a Master Class with Dr. Al Sturgis from the NC Master Chorale and will have a professional recording session. The Martin Middle School Honors Chorus is directed by Mrs. Ramona Jenner. More information about the Triangle Youth Chorus Trophy and Triangle Sings is available at www.trianglesings.org.

Martin Theatre represented on state theatre conference website
Check out the home page of the N orth C arolina T heatre C onference at http://www.nctc.org/ – NCTC has chosen four photos from member organizations for their opening page, and a photo from Martin’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of them! When you visit the site, you will see four large colored blocks with the letters NCTC in them -- be sure to click on the small NCTC letters in the small white box in the upper left corner to refresh the pictures. The fourth photo is from our production, and our school name, production, and photographer Robin O’Connor (former Martin mom and volunteer) are identified below the photo. Our school is featured alongside photos from Elon University , Triad Stage, and Playmakers Rep.
Drama Production and Technical Theatre III students earned a Superior Rating at the North Carolina Theatre Conference Regional Middle School Play Festivalfor their production of "Serpent of Stone" .They also won Theatre Arts awards for Excellence in Puppetry, Excellence in Choreography, and Excellence in Directing. In addition, Lauren B.'s one-act play was recognized for Excellence in Playwriting!
